Later this evening... Much better after adding a little simple syrup and grenadine. Just a dash to take the tartness off. And prettier too.

The Beachcomer
Wishing for warmer climes and a use for my maraschino liqueur. A bit on the tart side. Note: Use less lime juice next time.

Satan's Whiskers
Haven't had this one in a while. So good. Perfect blend of liquids with a touch of tart, just a touch. Reminded lately why I like gin so much, it adds so much character to a drink.
Today was a day I just couldn't get the chill out of my bones and this is just what the doctor ordered. For some reason the recipes call for 1/2 ounces which would make a tiny tipple. I added a quarter ounce of each ingredient. Still not enough to fill my coupe. Next time I'll do full ounces.
Also I used Grand Marnier not orange curaƧao although I have a delicious orange liqueur by New Holland Artisan Spirits called Clockwerk Orange. Mmmmm.
Below is pic of two recipes I have. One is from The Bartender's Deck and the other from a book Tom gave me for Xmas-The Essential Bar Book. The other is my drink, you can see the size - after only one sip. See why I need to increase ounceage!? And behind is Tom's emptied drink. Still love our Christofle barware all these years later.

Making up for lost time - the artisan's pallette
We have had several cocktails over the last few months, other than tonight, that I diligently photographed but never found the time to blog about...
First, on March 6, the Presidente -
I remember absolutely loving the color of this cocktail. It was a splendid indigo. Flavor, I do not recall, but it is in the Architecture of the Cocktail book mentioned earlier, but I am sure I enjoyed it as it is Rum based with curacao and grenadine - all yummy!
Then on March 30, the Argentina -
Again, a stunning blush cocktail that looked loverly on our new sage monogrammed cocktail napkins, courtesy of my mother-in-law. This recipe was from the Cocktail DB mentioned tonight in previous post. I made this out of my desire to try benedictine. It was gin-based, light like it's colour, with an herbal flavor from the bitters, benedictine and gin. Perhaps best enjoyed after a day's gardening.

Artist's Special cocktail
My husband and I realized today that we haven't had a drop of alcohol all week. He lost 5 pounds, but can't say the same for me.
After spending some time with close friends that are wildly into cleanses and homemade smoothies, I was intrigued and motivated to try a cleanse. I selected Dr. Oz's 48 hour cleanse. My honey did it about 80%, but I completed the cleanse at about 95% (meaning we had some deviations). I ended up with a rash from my neck through my torso. Suffice it to say, all this healthy stuff left us longing for the perfect cocktail on an early spring evening.
This cocktail, which is bourbon-based (oh, so hip right now), has a crisp, light taste - perfect for spring! Had to go and get sherry for my cabinet to make it, but worth the trip out at cocktail hour when all one wants to do is vege.
See the Cocktail Internet Database for this recipe and more.
